Education in Haiti
A quick note from my reading this morning. I saw this article in the New York Times on education in Haiti. The article is highlighting how Haiti’s education system is to be rebult and made stronger. I was struck by the fact that not once was accessibility for children with disabilities was mentioned. There are children today that will not be in school that were seven months ago because of accessibility. If new and repaired schools are not done to enable all to attend, those who have suffered an impairment due to the earthquake will suffer yet another loss – being left out of education. It could be that the person that could grow up to lead the country to better development, become a leader, or inspire a nation and the world will not because they are left out of school.
The donor nations to Haiti have to ensure that all rebuilding of schools is done in a way which allows all children to benefit. This would be real leadership!
